Here are all the things I loved in October: a month which I would be so bold as to call one of the year’s best (the foliage, the weather, Halloween, pumpkin spice…need I say more?).
Let me be #basic for a sec by listing Pumpkin bread: Duh. I haven’t met a single person who doesn’t love a good piece of pumpkin bread. I actually really enjoy making it myself and find that it’s not even that bad for you if you use whole wheat/almond/coconut flour and some coconut sugar!
Whipped cream:…on everything. Whipped cream is light, frothy and perfect sweet. So, as one who has a massive sweet tooth, I can’t go a day without it. I put a layer of it on top of my coffee in the morning (+ a sprinkle of cinnamon), on top of whatever bread I baked or mixed in with some dark chocolate chips for a sweet treat at night.
Quest bars: These popular protein bars basically fueled my October. To me, they are the perfect mid-morning snack and so damn delicious. I am personally obsessed with the cookie dough and s’mores flavors.
Hot chocolate: My hot chocolate cravings during this month were so real. I guess that is what happens when the weather starts to cool down. I always top mine with whipped cream, obviously.
Roasted potatoes: Between having them at brunch when I went home for a weekend to eating them 3x a week for dinner, roasted potatoes were very prevalent during the month of October. The are versatile, filling and damn delicious.
Black Mirror: This interesting show on Netflix imagines what life would be like if technology were even more powerful than it already is. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t look too good, folks.
The news: Because I am of voting age, I found it imperative that I keep up with the election as much as possible so I could make an informed decision. But, watching the election coverage started to become more entertaining than informative…
Leggings: Not sure when leggings won’t be featured on my Favorites list…they are just too damn comfortable. But fortunately, the rampant athleisure trend means they are socially acceptable to wear on a regular basis, as long as they are worn with awesome sneaks, a cool coat and a cropped hoodie.
Hoodies: Again, shout out to the athleisure trend for pushing me to wear hoodies on the reg. The fact is that they actually look super cool when paired with either a jean jacket or a tailed, camel coat.
Nike sneakers: Okay so athleisure basically fueled my wardrobe this entire month. I think nowadays, everyone needs at least two pairs: one colored and one black and white. Again, if added to any outfit (and I mean any) you will look totally on trend.
Flannels: Confession: I have been wearing the same flannel since 2009. So shoutout to Urban Outfitters for making some top-quality flannels. I have been pairing mine with leggings and my ankle Chelsea boots.
Gold jewelry: Ever since I started wearing jewelry, gold tones have been my go-to, but I have been even more obsessed with such pieces lately. Some delicate gold necklaces, bracelets and rings really take an outfit from plain to awesome.
Taking road trips: You may have noticed through these posts that I recently took a road trip to Vermont. Man, was it one of the best decisions I have made in a while. If you’re bored or in a rut, I highly, highly suggest packing a bag with clothes and snacks and high-tailing it out of there to a town where you can relax and explore.
Writing screenplays: A couple years ago, I started writing screenplays but that habit soon got buried under the homework college comes with. Now, as a senior, I have a little more time on my hands and have been enjoyed getting back to it.
Eating at diners: October was a great month because I ate out at diners a couple different times. There are a couple different reasons why diners are so damn awesome: 1.) the menus are huge, 2.) the atmosphere is so nostalgic and 3.) you can get breakfast, lunch or dinner there.
Going out in DC: Because I am now 21, it is finally time to take advantage of the nightlife scene in our nation’s capital, which is a stone’s throw away from me. Some of my fave night time spots to hit up are Shenanigans Pub, The Madhatter and Brass Monkey
