If you follow what’s happening in New York City at all (specifically if those happenings involve things you can sip and nosh on), then you might know about the cute, pink-and-green cafe that recently opening up in NoLita (north of Little Italy).
After opening only a mere week ago, Cha Cha Matcha has already experienced massive influxes of hip and cool customers who are dying to get a taste of the magical matcha. They certainly went to the right place.
In figuring out how good Cha Cha is, it’s important that you have tried matcha drinks before.
Unfortunately, I am not one who has been around the matcha block, but I have had matcha lattes a couple different times before. In every single one of those instances, I am consuming not so much a matcha latte (which should take like, you know, matcha) but a cup of milk with a sprinkling of the green powder mixed it. So, sweet, green milk essentially.
I was pleasantly surprised (but I guess I should have been ready for it) that their iced matcha latte actually tasted like matcha.
And as someone who never really liked tea (especially not green tea, which is what matcha is but in a different form), I was very pleasantly surprised to find I actually enjoyed the taste.
It wasn’t flat and super grassy like the way green tea tastes to me (sorry, y’all, I’m a coffee fiend at heart!). It was slightly sweet, but still maintained that natural taste many have come to love green tea for. Furthermore, matcha contains three awesome things: 1.) caffeine, 2.) loads of antioxidants and 3.) a jitter-free buzz.
So, yes, I was impressed with the matcha, but I was also very impressed with Cha Cha’s atmosphere.
If the line out the door wasn’t enough to clue you in that this place is the place to be right now, then it’s happy, hip and cool atmosphere definitely did the job.
Even the bathroom stuck to the theme seen in the cafe, boasting green tiles and pink lighting.
Oh yeah, did I mention there is matcha flavored soft serve? Did I mention there are also matcha-cream-filled cronuts?
If the combination of the good matcha, vibrant atmosphere and matcha-themed treats hasn’t made you wanna stop by yet, I really do not know what will.
