If you like New York City and have major hankerings for anything sugary, then you’re gonna wanna listen up.
This past weekend, I took a trip to the Big Apple to meet up with my beloved mother and…we went a little crazy. No, I’m not talking clubbing ’til 3AM, walking the streets with nothing but a piece of cloth on: I’m talking trying out three major NYC sweet spots that I can’t wait to share with my fellow foodies.
So, read on for three sure-fire spots in NYC that will satisfy a sweet tooth (because they all satisfied mine, and that’s not an easy task).
For cookies that will make your heart melt.
I am trying to think of a cookie I have had in my life that compares to Schmackary’s, but absolutely none are coming to mind. That being said, it’s no surprise that’s what this bakery is known for: cookies.
These babies are big, soft and very flavorful. But, I must warn you, if you wholeheartedly prefer crunchy cookies to soft ones, then this place might not be for you. I am one of the lucky ones, having tried five flavors already: Funfetti, Peanut Butter Patty, Chocolate Explosion, Dirty Leprechaun and Monster. All were absolutely delicious and were great representations of the name attached to them.
But, there is one flavor I recommend you try over the others, because it was that good: Funfetti.
For a gelato experience like no other in this country.
Okay, I’m gonna say something that might sound a little cray: I liked the gelato I had at Amorino more than I liked gelato I had in Florence, Italy.
Amorino strives to adhere to Italian ideals when making its gelato, and it truly shows (or should I say tastes?). A combination a really recommend is Biscotti (cookie/cinnamon flavored), L’inimitable (hazelnut and chocolate) and coconut (to keep things light and fresh). Let me just say that the coconut flavor was the best flavor of its kind that I have ever tasted. It was incredibly rich and creamy, sprinkled with actual coconut flakes.
For the most indulgent sundae ever!
Disclaimer: Holey Cream isn’t your typical ice cream parlor; it’s known for how it strategically combines donuts with ice cream to create a massive donut sundae.
Holey Cream staff take a donut of your choice (which are big and frosted to begin with), slice it in half like a bagel, and then stuff the middle with the ice cream of your choice. But, it doesn’t end there! If you’re feeling extra crazy, you can throw some extra toppings (I’ve seen people do Fruit Loops) on there.
Moral of the story: Holey Cream isn’t gonna give you a little something sweet to cap your dinner off with; it’s gonna give you a monster treat that is a meal on its own!
